This program of Russian composers is high-energy, diverse in temperament and rich in color. Cliburn silver medalist Philippe Bianconi debuts with the SRS performing Rachmaninoff’s final and most perfect of his works for piano and orchestra. The music of Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera shares the spotlight with Stravinsky’s The Firebird, in its complete 1910 version. Based on a folk tale full of exotic creatures, Firebird concludes our classical season with driving rhythms, unusual scales, crashing dissonances and an incredible sense of drama.
Bruno Ferrandis underwritten by Margaret and Harry Wetzel.
