Dawn Dover,
YPCO Music Director

pic8

Being selected as part of the prestigious UCSB Young Artist String Quartet program while in college was a pivotal experience for Dawn Dover that cultivated her passion and love for chamber music. She was taught and coached by many greats, including the Emerson String Quartet and Sequoia String Quartet, over the course of three years. It was during this experience that she fell in love with intense practicing, touring and performing.  She had the privilege of being a pupil of Ronald Copes of the Juilliard String Quartet for four years, as well as Stuart Canin. In addition, Dover has been coached extensively by Menaheim Pressler, Stephen Shipps, Ronald Leonard, Peter Rejto, Michelle Makarski, Heiichiro Ohyama and Robert Sylvester among others.

Since receiving her BA degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara, she has performed professionally (chamber music and orchestral) throughout Europe, the USA and Japan. She was first violinist of the Carmel Bach Festival Quartet for five seasons. As well, she is an original member of the New Century Chamber Orchestra, was a member of the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, and performed with the San Diego Opera Orchestra. She was also a member of the Santa Barbara Symphony and was concertmaster/soloist of the Santa Barbara and Sonora Chamber Orchestras. She has performed with the San Francisco Symphony for over 12 years.

For many years, Dover was a member of the Percy Faith Orchestra in Los Angeles which tours extensively in Japan.  As a soloist, concertmaster and section player, she has performed in recording engagements for PBS documentaries, IMAX films, video games, motion pictures, television, and radio. She is a former board member of the Recording Musicians Association of San Francisco and she performs regularly with the Skywalker Symphony. She has also served as concertmaster for many Broadway productions, including Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Titanic, and The Sound of Music.  She has also been a sought-after concertmaster for singers such as Josh Groban, Natalie Cole, Bruce Hornsby, Johnny Mathis, Tony Bennett, and Smokey Robinson over the past 20 years.

Dover’s performance career has slowed down due to an injury, which has prompted her to learn a great deal about bodywork and injury prevention for string players. She is currently working towards becoming a licensed practitioner of Quantum Touch.  She feels it is a very important part of instruction for her students, before debilitating injuries can occur.  She maintains a private violin studio in Windsor, has taught chamber music at the Santa Rosa Junior College as well as several music programs in Marin, including the Marin Youth Orchestra, the Marin Academy, San Domenico and the Marin Waldorf School.

In her spare time she studies Quantum Touch and Acupressure, and performs bodywork on people and animals. She also enjoys gardening, the ocean, and travel and adores her animals.
