Kymry Esainko, Piano

Pianist/keyboardist Kymry Esainko is known for his wide-ranging musical versatility. Principal pianist for the Santa Rosa Symphony since 2001, he has played under the baton of esteemed conductors such as Jeffrey Kahane, John Adams, Joana Carneiro and Bruno Ferrandis, performing on everything from piano, celesta and harpsichord to an ancient Yamaha SY-77 synthesizer. His work as a vocal and choral accompanist has taken him to concert halls around the world including the KKL in Luzern, Switzerland, Basilique Sainte-Clothilde in Paris, and the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Esainko accompanies the Pacific Mozart Ensemble, directed by Lynne Morrow, and the choral program at Acalanes High School in Lafayette, California. He has also worked with the Oakland East Bay Symphony and played in the Oakland Opera Theater productions of the Philip Glass operas Akhnaten and Les Enfants Terribles.

An active jazz and salsa musician in the Bay Area, Esainko plays piano, celesta and pump organ in Iron & the Albatross, a chamber jazz group led by trumpeter Ara Anderson, which made its San Francisco Jazz Festival debut in March 2008. He also plays piano in bassist and composer Matt Small’s Chamber Ensemble, which has performed at venues ranging from the Yerba Buena Center and Old First Church to Carnegie Hall.
 

Esainko graduated from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music with degrees in piano performance and American history. He has studied classical piano with Frank Wasko, Peter Takacs, and Sanford Margolis, and jazz piano with Neal Creque and Ed Kelly.
