Small ensembles of professional Santa Rosa Symphony musicians perform at local schools. Visits typically include commentary, instrument demonstrations, and other enhancements appropriate to various age groups of children.

Free Concerts for Youth reach more than 12,000 elementary school students annually. In addition to experiencing the grandeur of the concert hall, children are encouraged to view orchestral music as an integral part of artistic expression. Quite often, this is the student's first exposure to classical music. Many professional musicians credit attending a youth concert with inspiring them to pursue a career in music.

The Elementary School Listening Program is available free-of-charge to Sonoma County elementary schools.  The Brummitt-Taylor Listening Program, is new to the SRS Education Department, though it has been used in thousands of classrooms in the United States and Canada for twenty years. It is primarily intended for school wide participation (through daily broadcasts over the school's PA system), but it can be used in individual classrooms by special arrangement instead. It offers ideas for incorporating music into other core subject areas.

It's Elementary is the newest education program sponsored by the Santa Rosa Symphony.  Each year a couple of elementary schools in Sonoma County are selected to receive a full range of music education activities specifically designed for that school.  The culmination of these activities results in FREE tickets for the entire student body to attend a SRS discovery concert.

Keeping Score is a program sponsored by the San Francisco Symphony that focuses on professional development.  It offers teachers at all levels opportunities to learn about classical music and its connection to the core curriculum as well as training, materials and support to integrate music into other subject lessons. If you would like to become a member of the Sonoma County team, please contact the Education Department (707) 546-7097 x 219.

This free community outreach program brings the joy of music to more than 1,000 Sonoma County seniors each year. Across Sonoma County, members of the Santa Rosa Symphony Orchestra continue to provide on-going live concert performances to residents of convalescent and rest homes.

Seniors are also eligible for major discounts on concert tickets. The Symphony's free pre-concert lectures are always well attended by members of our senior population.
